Book Review

The purpose of the book I read was to help people that are trying to get to be a better bowling learn by themselves. It is going to tell them how to set there feet. How to hold the ball, choosing a ball, your arm swing, timing, release and a lot more. Other purpose of this book is for people that are trying to become a coach. Yes they will still need to go to classes but this will also help when not understanding something you missed or just need to review everything. This book is mostly written for a coach. It tells a lot more that a coach would need to know more then someone trying to get better or just starting to bowl. When i first started just looking at the book and not reading it yet i thought it was going to be a very easy book. Pretty much common sense. When starting to read it there was stuff in there that i did not know. I have been bowling for 15 years and like i said there is some stuff in there that helped me out that i was doing wrong. It was a very interesting book when getting into reading it.

There was a lot of things interesting about this book. I think this book was very interesting because it talked about everything. Most of the time books like this just talk about the basic step. Like what ball to throw, how to throw it, how to stand, how to release and more. How bowling is in a bunch of countries. It talks about how bowling is so much different then today. How they only use to use 9 pins instead of 10. This is something i did not know and was very interesting information to me. I mean this book even tells you how a ball is made. I think one of the most interesting things about this book is that it tells you how bowling got started and what the sport of bowling is. The book I read though was a lot more detailed. It told you everything from choosing a ball to lane conditions to talking about how to keep score. I thought this was interesting because it is a very good book to teach someone new everything. It just so detailed it very nice.

There was not much that disappointed me about this book. I was very pleased with the book i picked and I would recommend this book to a coach or someone else that is trying to bowl. Very good book. The only thing that kind of disappointed me was that it talked a lot about how bowling started and how everything come up. I think it should have talked more about shots and lanes conditions.
I think this book could be a very good book for coach's to show there team. I think people should read this book because you could learn a lot from it. It very interesting and detailed. There is stuff in here that most people do not know. In less they have read it or have done some kind of research on bowling. I know a lot on bowling but this book did teach me something and has made my decision on being a coach more wanting. It makes me want to teach other people what I know and have learned from this project.

House shot

These last 5 patterns I have told you about are PBA shots. They are what the professionals bowl on. They are very hard shot and you have to be someone that knows what to when the shot is hard. Like move your feet move your mark. The most important thing to know what bowling on these shots are that you might not bowl the best. Some time you have to have the rest ball. If you have the right ball you could shot very well and would not have a problem on them. The professionals do and do not have problems on them just cause they have bowled on them for years and know what and what not to do.
The other bowling shot that I think is easy is the House shot. This is just an oil pattern that is laid down in most bowling alleys. This has a oil lay out of 38 feet of oil. This shot has a lot of oil in the middle of the lane. This shot is very easy. If you find your mark you will be one the rest of the day. Some times people have a hard time because a lot of people bowl in tournaments and every game they have to keep switching lane. Which means a lot of people will be bowling on them and the oil is going to get pushed around. It could jut all get pushed into the middle because a lot of people play out by the gutter. If you are left handed you always have a good shot on a house shot because there are not that many left handed bowlers and if you mark a shot for your ball to role over on the left side no one else is going to be throwing it so the oil is going to stay where it is at unlike the right side where there are tons of people that are right handed and the oil will move so much. What pushing the oil mean is that when your ball roles down the lane it is pinking up oil with it and also the stuff it is not picking up is getting moved to the side of the lane. Like where your ball is rolling it will get very dry right there and you might either have to move or throw the ball out father in to some of the oil. If that does not work you might have to move your feet and or speed up your ball. Either speed it up in your arm or in the feet. Speeding your feet up might throw your timing off which you will have either a weird release or might miss your mark. Your feet will be very off balance and you will fall over. Speeding up for ball will give the ball less time to role and react then if were going slow then it would have time to role and react.

Oil Pattern Cheetah

The next Oil Pattern I am going to tell you about is the Cheetah. The Cheetah is 35 feet of oil. The shot is pretty much playing the gutter. This shot is one of the most high scoring oil patterns. Bowling the Cheetah you have to risk throwing a gutter ball because you have to throw it so close to the gutter to get it to the head pin and to carry 10 pins of even single pins if that. People have to play out in the channel which is most the time out of people comfort zone because it is so far out. The style you throw Will determine where were ball starts to hook at arrows. Most of the time when trying to shot a good score on the Cheetah you will have to throw about the 5 or less bored. Throwing a straighter angle will probably be better off. This is not a oil Pattern to be using a weak ball. If your ball starts reacting more and your leaving single pins of hooking to far to the left you might want to try to switch more to an less aggressive ball. Try to bowl with a ball that has a good back end snap on it. I think the cheetah is one of the more easier one to shoot good one. I have had very good scores shot on it and if i had to pick any of them this is one of them i would choose before any of them.

Oil Pattern Chameleon

The last PBA oil pattern I am going to tell you about is the Chameleon. It is 39 feet of oil. A shot you have to know where to move and how to adjust on the lane. You would have to know what part of the lane to throw and to stick with it. A lot of people do struggle on this shot and when adjusting on these type of lanes you really need to move like 5 or more boards. Don't be afraid to. Cause you if you do not that you will have a very hard to shooting good on this shot. They call this shot the Chameleon because a Chameleons color changes and the oil on the lane can change at any time. If you were to miss the pocket you could leave single pins. This is a shot were everything is going to get pushed one way.

Oil Pattern Scorpion

Another one I am going to tell you about is the Scorpion. This is one of the longest patterns. It is 41 feet down the lane with oil. This is one of the most challenging patterns because it is very long. If you can find a good mark to throw you are going to struggle. You are going to need a very aggressive ball. Probably the most aggressive one you can find or buy. This shot is very hard. You have to find away to hit the pocket early. You have to keep the ball in and away from the gutter. This shot is one that you can not get out to close to the gutter like some of the other ones where you have to. You have to keep this one in and close to the head pin. If you were to get it to close to the gutter it could go in the gutter or you could maybe get just a few pins because it will never come back from way out by the gutter. You can shot this angle from different angles. The pattern will change from lane to lane. You might think you have a mark set out on one lane but if you were to go bowl on other lane or the lane right next to it everything will be different just because of all the oil that is going to get pushed around because not everyone throws the same line and shot. When wanting to bowl on this pattern you should probably find some where to practice first so you have an idea of what they are going to be like and so you can know where to move and what mark you could hit.

Oil Pattern Shark

The next oil pattern I am going to tell you about is the shark. I have also bowled on this shot and it is one of them that I liked. The Shark is 44 foot of oil. This is a lot of oil. You will have to move more toward the center. This shot is one or the risky ones. The way the named this oil pattern the shark is because sharks normally sit at the deep part of the oceans and the oil on the lane is very deep. This bowling shot you have to play inside. If you throw your ball out to close to the gutter you will have a less chance of the ball coming back and hitting the pocket. If you get it out to far you could leave stuff you don't want to leave like splits, single pins of just leave stuff that's ugly. When trying to hit the pocket with this shot you will have to hit it more straight on then coming in from the outside. This is give the pins more time to react. If you were to hit the pocket coming from more out by the gutter you would more then likely leave single pins or more. Just cause it does not have enough time to do anything except push everything one way. When bowling on the Shark you would need more of an aggressive ball. Most people feel if you have an aggressive ball you will shot better.

Oil Patterns Viper

There are 6 different professional bowling oil patterns. They are mostly bowled on by professionals from the PBA. One of those 6 are just a normal house shot. Which this is pretty much what every bowling alley lays down for either league or just open bowling. People think that these are easy and that anyone can do it. People think all you can do to move your feet and mark. Well some times its not that easy. People think who bowling 250 or better can just go bowl pro or bowl on one of the pro shots. Well wait till you get out there its not that easy. I have bowling on these and it is very hard. I thought I was good till i started this league and bowled on these.
One of the pattern is the viper. The length of the oil is 37 feet. Viper is one of the shortest oil patterns the professional bowl on. The ball will break earlier then the other oil patterns will. This oil pattern strikes with multiple angles of attack. When bowling on this pattern you should start more on the out side then you normally do. Move your feet more right if you are right handed and if you are left handed you would move your feet left. This will move your ball more outside then if you were standing left/right more. Try when throwing the ball to keep it a little straighter then normal will help it from not breaking early. When throwing a few from the oil will start to move and it will start getting dry were you are throwing with means you are going to have to move your feet either left/right to adjust to the lane condition. This makes people attack the pins from different angles. This pattern allows the ball to role more down the middle of the lane. The Viper is one of the most reactive patterns to shoot on. People that can read lanes well and move will be the ones that will shot very well one this shot. To some people this is a very easy shot but you have to have the balls that are meant for a short oil lane shot. If you have someone that is going to hook right away that might not be the best thing to use.

What I am going to do is interview a coach that has been coaching high school bowling for many of years. He has been bowling since he was a kid and is a very good bowling. He has been coaching for at least 19 years or more. He has helped a lot of kids and got a lot of kid going to good colleges and bowling for them. He has helped kids out that have no idea to what they are doing and then by the end of the year of bowling season they are on the right track and on there way to being a some what of a good bowling or even better. He is a very smart and talented guy. You ask him something he will talk your ear off by answering your question.

Bowling Techniques

When it comes to bowling you have to constantly develop you own techniques. The skill that you will either learn or teach your self you have to be comfortable with. After you practice a lot you will start to understand more about bowling techniques. You swing and approach are very important skill to know. When you are working on your approach you have to work more on what your feet are like are and were you position your ball. Most of the time when positioning your ball it should be against your body even with your waist during your approach. Also when have to perfect you stance, you have to make sure it is correct and not off balance or your feet are not wrong.

The video I have put up is about how to stand with the ball in your hand and also how to move your arm with out it going out of control. There is a lot you need to know before u can be good. Have a good stance is very good. It can help you in a lot of ways. When you have a good position with your foot and arms it will help you swing. Your swing is one of the most important things in bowling. You have to have good timing, release and rotation. Timing is the key to being a good 200+ average bowler. Those three things i just named off all lead into each other. Timing helps your release with helps you rotation and you will have a good finish. Most of the time when you let go of the ball is when the rotation of the ball start working. When you finish your arm swing most of the time you should be pointing up or at the your mark. When bowling you could have someone watching you to make sure you are doing everything right now everything is on. One good way to work with your self if you have no one to help you at the time is to hook up and camera right behind the lane and start and stop it every time you are starting and finshing. That is a very good way to show your self what you are doing wrong because you can see what your doing wrong and not have someone tell you. When people see them self doing it wrong it is easier for them to fix it there self then trying to have someone tell them what they are doing and then tring to fix it.
These last 4 post I have done are mostly about what you would have to know to become a coach. There is a lot more but you mostly need to know how to teach someone how to stand right and how to position the ball. Someone that knows nothing about bowling but would like to get into it and they come ask you what they should get you could tell them what type of ball and what grips they can get and then work with them from there. After they have all the required stuff that you need for a beginning bowler. Then you as a coach can step up and ask the person if they need help or would like to have someone help them so they can become better. Some people do not like having a coach help them because maybe one of there parents are helping them or someone else. Everyone has a different way of teaching people and if two people are trying to teach someone how to bowl the person can get very mad and very upset because if you do the one thing one person told you and the someone else sees it and does not like it then he/see will come tell you that its wrong or that maybe there is something you can change can get very frustrating. When you get frustrated with an adult or even a coach they are not happy with you and when you need help they are not very helpful. Coaching sometimes can be a little harder then what people think it really is.

About Bowilng

Bowling is a very interesting sport. You have to be really dedicated to bowling if you want to be good or get anything for it. You can get scholarship and awards. There are tournaments and stuff you can get into but a lot of them are very competitive. When I first started bowling I was about 3 years old and now i am 18 and have been through a lot in bowling. From learning how to throw the ball to Learning about to hook and move my mark. There are people that have been bowling for 4 to 5 years have are very good bowlers because they put there time and dedication into it.

This video I have posted shows you the first things about bowling. Like how you can read the lanes. The video shows the pin distance from where the beginning of the lane started. It also shows and tell what the arrows are that are on the lane and what pins they line up with. In bowling there are more things you need to know then you would think. There are arrows, dot, pin, boards, and a lot more. Like oil pattern and marks. It takes a long time for some people to understand the techniques.
Pretty much the hole point of bowling is to score the highest score and to beat other people. In most houses now they have synthetic surfaced lanes. A lot of the old houses have old lanes what are kind of hard to bowl on to a point. Bowling is a good exercise it burns calories and works muscle a lot of people do not use. It mostly works your tendons, joints, and ligaments. Its does not work just your muscles it also works on friendships and other relationships.

Coaching

How I got interested in being a bowling coach was bowling for Kennedy and seeing what a coach goes through and how much someone can teach someone thing in a little bit of time. When bowling for high school my coach always had new girls that never new what they were doing and so he helped them and got them to were they know what they were doing some what. That is something I really want to do is help someone with something there are interested in doing. Yeah they might not be as good as Norm Duke but they might like it the more they bowl and the more practice they better they will get. It just the time they have to put into it. If they put a lot of time into it they could get in to league or even into school bowling if your school has it. Bowling has always been a big part of my life and I would like to make it party of someone else’s. I would love to help someone make a dream or even start a dream. I would like to be the person to become someone that will be a coach for a long time. Start at a school and work my way up to 16-17 years or more. I want to be the coach people always talk about and come back and watch all the time. I would like to help a school get better or go to state every year. Also when people talk about the school they would send there kids there because they have a good bowling program and good education.
